CHOICES Program
November 19, 2008

CHOICES is an interactive decision-making workshop that empowers teens to achieve academic success in pursuit of their career and life aspirations. In two hour-long sessions, business and community volunteers take students through real-world exercises on academic self-discipline, time and money management, and goal setting. At the 9th grade level the students are old enough to envision the future, yet young enough to develop positive skills and habits for success in high school and beyond.

imageThe Orthopaedic Center had the fortunate opportunity of sending two volunteers to teach the CHOICES course during the month of November.  We had a blast!  We are hoping to be invited back for the spring semester so we can make this a bi-annual event.

Karen Simonton, our CFO, had nothing but good things to say about the program. “The Choices program is one great way to pull our community together.  It invites communication across different groups of people all fed by a common purpose; making Region 2000 a vibrant place to live, work and play.  When you are passionate about making your “home” a good place for everyone that lives there and you have this kind of tool, you can do some amazing things.  I look forward to working with our young people again in this and other venues.  As a group, they were receptive, engaged and entertaining.  We all had a good time!”
