The Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center
strives to maintain low ratio of patient-to-therapist
care in order to provide a higher quality rehab
experience and quicker recovery time by tailoring
the rehab program to the patient’s needs.
As part of The Orthopaedic Center, patients have
on-site access to orthopaedists if concerns arise.
Therapists provide physical and occupational therapy
programs to take patients from the acute phase
of an injury, or post injury/surgery, to
the highest level of function possible enabling
patients to return to daily activities, work,
or play. Sports specific and advanced strengthening
programs are created, when appropriate, for athletes
or those weekend sports lovers who want to return
to the field or court.
Our physical therapists work with patients regarding
range of motion, strengthening, mobility, balance
and gait (walking). Our therapists work
with acute and chronic conditions and treat musculoskeletal
or biomechanical pain of the neck, back, head,
TMJ, or extremities.
Our occupational therapists are trained to work
with patients regarding activities of daily living
which include bathing, dressing, mobility, and
work-specific tasks. They specialize in
upper extremity rehabilitation including range
of motion and strengthening of the hand, wrist,
elbow, and shoulder.
Our physicians work closely
with the therapists to coordinate appropriate
care for their patients. Working as a team, patients
benefit from the combined specialties of The Orthopaedic
Center of Central Virginia.
